On New Year's Eve 1986, Andy Lakey had a near-death experience: “At that moment, angels appeared to me. I saw them and felt their unconditional love... The most incredible thing was that I gained artistic talent.”
From then on, he quit his sales job and began to record every emotion he felt through his paintings. Between 1990 and 1999, he completed 2,000 angel paintings, fulfilling a mission that transcended time.
His Angel series uses bas-relief techniques, with thick layers of paint giving the artwork a tactile quality so that blind people can “see” the angels through touch.
He has donated hundreds of his works to organizations such as the Blind Children’s Center, Lighthouse for the Blind, and Ray Charles, allowing those who cannot see to feel the warmth of angels.
Andy has not only broken new ground in his creative work, but he has also used his art for charitable purposes, donating angel paintings to organizations such as the Los Angeles Blind Children's Center, Lighthouse for the Blind (NY), and the US Military Charity Organization.
His work has attracted the attention of programs such as World News and Good Morning America, and has frequently appeared in media outlets such as Oprah and People, establishing a foundation of trust in the value of “charity art.”
